In collaboration with the patient, the referral form is completed by the primary care provider and sent to Musculoskeletal
Central Intake. On the referral form, the primary care provider indicates the patient’s preference of:

Once Central Intake receives the referral, it is processed and sent to the rapid access clinic based on the patient’s choice. Hip and Knee rapid access clinics are located across Home and Community Care Support Services Central East:

At the rapid access clinic, patients will be assessed by a regulated healthcare professional (Assessor) who has received specialized training with orthopaedic surgeons. The patient will be provided with education and tools to better support their condition, and may be referred to an orthopaedic surgeon.
Surgical Consultation
Patients who are referred for surgical consult will be offered their choice of first available surgeon, preferred surgeon or preferred hospital. The primary care providers will also be informed of the recommended course of treatment.
