PRHC's Centre for Complex Diabetes Care in partnership with Patients and Peterborough Community Garden Network build a Community Garden.
Peterborough, ON – This spring, the staff from the Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s (PRHC) Centre of Complex Diabetes Care in partnership with a group of diabetes patients and Peterborough Community Garden Network created a bountiful garden. This endeavor allows patients with diabetes to harvest organic, nutritious fresh foods while increasing physical activity, healthy eating and a sense of community ownership and stewardship.
"The benefits of community gardening are well recognized," noted Jeanne Brown, Nurse Practitioner of PRHC's Centre for Complex Diabetes Care. "It has a positive impact on a person's physical, mental and emotional well-being, while providing increased access to economical, nutritious local grown food".
