Erie St. Clair CCAC Celebrating Quality Success

The Erie St. Clair Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) is once again going through the accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International. In 2012, Erie St. Clair became the first CCAC in the province to achieve this quality milestone.

Under CARF's requirements, organizations must go through an extensive re-accreditation process every three years, involving a five-day site visit by CARF representatives. Starting September 28, the surveyors will attend all of ESC CCAC's sites throughout the week, including offices and clinics in Chatham, Windsor and Sarnia.

"Re-accreditation provides us with a tremendous opportunity to celebrate our quality accomplishments over the last three years," said CEO Lori Marshall. "These include developing our Strategic Plan and implementing our direction of Patient and Family Centred Care. The addition of Patient Advisors is helping us increase the quality of care we provide by gathering input from people who have experienced our services first hand."

Other quality successes include the creation of Strategic Councils comprised of internal and external members who work to support, develop and enhance our practices and services; the addition of Rapid Response and Mental Health & Addictions nurses; the rollout of Telehomecare in Windsor-Essex; and the introduction of e-referral to Long-Term Care.

As part of the survey, accreditors will interview patients (and their families), our staff and others. The survey will gauge what the ESC CCAC is doing well and ways to improve.

"We work diligently to ensure we are providing the best service possible, and in doing so, aim to achieve re-accreditation with CARF. This is evidence based, and helps us to continue to enhance our delivery of quality Patient and Family Centred Care," said Marshall.

It will take about 6-8 weeks for CARF to process the results of the survey.

CARF International is an independent, not-for-profit family of organizations (including CARF, CARF Canada and CARF-CCAC) that provides accreditation in the field of human resources.
