The Erie St. Clair CCAC Launches LTCH Wait Time Data and Virtual Tours

June 7, 2013

Chatham, ON – To help families make informed choices about long-term care, the Erie St. Clair Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), through the support of the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (ESC LHIN) has launched two new tools designed to assist families with this care transition. The publication of wait time data and virtual tours for all long-term care homes throughout the region are now available online.

The long-term care home wait time data is accessible on the Erie St. Clair CCAC website – www.esc.ccac-ont.ca (under the "Long-Term Care Options" tab)– in three separate documents; one for Windsor and Essex County, one for Chatham-Kent, and one for Sarnia and Lambton County. These documents, updated monthly, provide prospective residents with a variety of important information about each long-term care home. Families can view the number of beds in each home, the number of people on the waiting list, as well as the average wait time in days for each type of accommodation in the home (basic, semi-private, and private).

While the wait-time documents will be updated monthly, long-term care home wait times vary and often change on a daily basis. As a result, families are encouraged to continue to work with their CCAC care coordinator for support in decision making and assistance with the application process.

Virtual tours of each long-term care home throughout Erie St. Clair are also available and can be accessed by either clicking directly on the home’s name within the wait list document, or by visiting the CCAC’s healthline website directly at www.eriestclairhealthline.ca . The virtual tours can be found on each long-term care home’s individual profile on the healthline website and there, families and caregivers are provided with an overview of the home and its amenities as well as given an opportunity to "visit" the home remotely. The tours can be viewed via computer, tablet or mobile device.

"The decision to move a loved-one into a long-term care home can be a challenging and emotionally trying time," says Erie St. Clair CCAC CEO, Betty Kuchta. "There are also many important and different factors to consider. We hope that by providing access to this type of information, we will further help families and caregivers find a home that best suits the needs of their loved-one".

Gary Switzer, CEO of the ESC LHIN, also adds, "People have health care options. These virtual tour videos are an excellent tool to help residents understand their long-term care options. We have fantastic long-term care homes in Erie St. Clair, and the videos are a perfect way to highlight the quality of each home."
