Labour Disruption Ends

On Tuesday, February 17th, the North East CCAC welcomed back its ONA-represented employees after a 16-day labour disruption. The nine CCACs in Ontario impacted by the strike and the Ontario Nursing Association agreed to ‘interest arbitration’ to resolve the outstanding issue regarding wages.

“It’s been a challenging time for us all in the North East, and we certainly appreciate the support of our health care partners in the home, community, long-term care and hospital sectors as we worked together to provide priority services to patients during the labour disruption,” says Frankie Vitone, Senior Director of Care Coordination. “Our goal now is to ramp up to normal operations as quickly as possible, and resume our full range of services to patients, caregivers and families across our vast region.”

“Our Care Coordinators, Placement Admissions Coordinators, Health Care Connectors, Mental Health and Addiction Nurses for Schools, Rapid Response Nurses, Telehomecare Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Enterostomal Therapy Nurses are key members of our health care system and we have all missed their experience and expertise. It’s great to have the entire team working together again.”
