A pilot project in North Bay involving the North East CCAC, Paramed and Care Partners is helping seniors in the area to remain independent in their homes. The new Home Independence Program, or HIP for short, is focused on seniors who simply require some tips, techniques and tools to help them live safely at home without external supports.
Soon after a senior is admitted to CCAC care, and identified as someone who could benefit from the HIP initiative, a team of personal support workers and rehabilitation therapists visits with the individual in his/her home. This early intervention can often prevent the need for support services to be required on a long-term basis.
The program continues to recruit appropriate individuals and has been well-received by those who have had the HIP experience. For more information on the Home Independence Program, please contact Laurie McLachlan, 705-476-2220 x 2264.
