June 6, 2016
On June 2, 2016 the Minister of Health and Long Term Care introduced new legislation,
Bill 210, Patients First Act, 2016 to the legislature in support of Ontario's Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care – the provincial blueprint for health care transformation in Ontario.
The Patients First Act would give Ontario's Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) an expanded role, including primary care and home and community care. The plan includes changes in the governance of home and community care.
At this time, there are no immediate changes taking place. It is our understanding that legislation will be passed in the fall and specific implementation plans are yet to be determined.
At present, patients, families and providers can be assured that the North West Community Care Access Centre continues to provide services and receive referrals for care, support and system navigation.
