The North Simcoe Muskoka Community Care Access Centre (NSM CCAC) values the role of voluntary caregivers. Through charitable donations received, we have been able to support caregivers through the Care for the Caregiver program since 2008. This program recognizes caregivers who provide personal care and
support to a family member, neighbour or friend getting care from the NSM CCAC.
Of the 24 years Mr. and Mrs. Gyory have been married, Shemiza has been
caregiving for her husband Paul since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 8 years ago.
As Paul’s caregiver, Shemiza shares, “So far everything is okay. You
have to make sure he’s comfortable. Sometimes I help to
feed him, dress him. For him, to put on his shirt is very
difficult. Sometimes people cannot understand, but I
understand. I try to tell them what it is he says.”
In 2014-15, Shemiza was one of the caregivers who
received support through the Care for the Caregiver
program to use towards caregiving relief.
